A Neoprene Beanie for Longer Sessions in Cold Water and Wind

The O'Neill Neoprene Beanie is a 2mm wetsuit beanie for water sports when water and air temperatures drop. Your wetsuit keeps your core warm, but your head stays exposed to wind and cold water every time you fall. The beanie holds in heat, so you can stay on the water longer through late autumn, winter and early spring.

It is made from stretchy FluidFlex neoprene. An elastic leash at the back ties to your wetsuit zip pull or Velcro, so you won't lose it in a wipeout.

Who Is the O'Neill Neoprene Beanie For?

It is for anyone who wants to extend their season when the water is cold but a full hood is not yet needed. O'Neill recommends a thin cap or hood once the water drops below 14 °C.

  • kitesurfers, wing foilers and windsurfers who get hit by cold water when they crash
  • surfers who find a hood restricts their movement
  • SUP paddlers on winter tours in cold wind

O'Neill Neoprene Beanie Benefits

Longer sessions in cold water
The beanie reduces heat loss from your head, so the cold doesn't drive you off the water as quickly.

Stays with you in a wipeout
The elastic leash connects the beanie to your wetsuit.

Quick on, free neck
A beanie goes on and off faster than a hood and leaves your neck free to turn.

Ear protection
It covers your ears and shields them from wind and cold water.

Beanie or Hood – Which Do You Need?

A wetsuit beanie is easier to put on and gives more freedom of movement, so it suits moderately cold conditions. A hood also covers your neck and stops cold water flushing down your wetsuit, which makes it the better choice for very cold water and frequent duck dives.

The beanie is made entirely from 2mm FluidFlex neoprene, the stretchy material O'Neill also uses in its wetsuits.

Why Choose O'Neill?

Jack O'Neill founded the brand in 1952 when he opened a surf shop in a San Francisco garage. He soon began making neoprene wetsuits that let surfers stay out longer in cold water. Today, O'Neill's Area 52 team develops its gear for the coldest conditions.
