SUP Seats – Paddle Sitting Down, Like a Kayak

A SUP seat is a kayak-style seat with a backrest that you attach to an inflatable paddle board to turn your SUP into a kayak. It's also called a SUP kayak seat. You sit low on the board with your back supported, so you can paddle for longer, take a break, or sit down when the water gets choppy and balancing on your feet is harder.

Our SUP seat has a soft foam backrest with an adjustable angle and attaches to the D-rings on your board with two straps. It fits SUPs from different brands.

When Is a SUP Seat Most Useful?

Where and howWhy a seat
Longer toursswitch between standing and sitting so your body gets a rest
Wind and wavessitting puts you lower and more stable
Beginnersmore confidence until your balance is steady
Paddling with kids or a passengerthe adult sits at the back, the child at the front
Fishing and photographysit still with your hands free

How to Attach a SUP Seat

Attach the seat to the D-rings on your board with two straps, no tools needed.

  1. Place the seat in the middle of the board, just behind the centre handle.
  2. Clip the front straps to the D-rings in front of the seat and the rear ones to the rings behind it.
  3. Tighten the straps so the seat doesn't move when you lean back.
  4. Adjust the backrest angle so you sit upright and comfortably.

The seat fits any SUP with D-rings, whatever the brand. If your board doesn't have rings in the right places, you can add them. You'll find D-rings in our SUP spare parts, and our repair team can fit them for you.

SUP as a Kayak – Which Paddle?

For paddling seated, a standard SUP paddle is too long and you have to keep switching it from side to side. A SUP kayak paddle is more practical, with a blade at each end like a kayak paddle. Most have an extra blade you fit when you need it, so you can also use it as a regular SUP paddle. You'll find them in our SUP paddles.

SUP Seats with a Backrest

A backrest supports your lower back, so you can paddle seated for longer and with less effort. A good SUP seat has:

  • soft but firm foam that doesn't give way after half an hour,
  • an adjustable backrest angle so you can fine-tune your position,
  • strong straps and buckles that hold up when you lean back and in waves,
  • quick-drying material for when water washes over it.

Paddling with Kids or a Passenger

With a seat, an adult can sit at the back and paddle while a child sits or lies at the front. Because you sit low, the board is more stable and your child can move around without throwing you off balance. For paddling as a pair, also see our multi-person SUP boards.

Who Is a SUP Seat For?

  • anyone who wants to stay on the water longer and take breaks,
  • beginners still finding their balance,
  • families paddling with kids,
  • anglers and photographers,
  • anyone who loves kayaking but wants one board for both.

How to Care for a SUP Seat

After use in the sea, rinse the seat with fresh water to clear salt and sand from the buckles, and dry it in the shade. Don't leave it in the sun for long, as UV rays weaken the foam and straps over time.
