Why even a kids’ SUP?

A kids’ SUP is specially tailored for children — shorter, narrower and much lighter than a typical adult SUP. Because of these traits, a child can paddle more easily, learn maneuvering faster and have more control on the water. A kids’ SUP is stable, easy to use, and meant to make the first steps into the world of SUP safe, playful and relaxed.

Paddling gives children a wonderful chance to connect with nature, develop balance, coordination and confidence, and spend time outdoors. That’s why it’s important they have a board suited to them — not just a scaled‑down adult solution.

We recommend a kids’ SUP to parents who want their children to paddle independently on a board that matches their weight, strength and size, allowing natural and proper technique development.

Why choose a kids’ SUP instead of a regular SUP?

If a child uses a board that’s too big or heavy, it often happens that the child:

  • can’t carry or turn the board alone,
  • has to paddle far away from the body,
  • spends too much energy on basic movement,
  • loses interest because paddling becomes tiring.

Kids’ SUP boards are designed differently. They are smaller, lighter and have less volume, which allows the child to:

  • handle the board more easily,
  • feel balance better,
  • paddle with more correct movement,
  • enjoy more and progress faster.

That leads to a better experience and greater safety on the water.

Key features of a kids’ SUP board

To give your child a truly good SUP experience, we recommend a board made specifically for kids.

Kids’ SUPs have:

  • smaller dimensions that make maneuvering easier,
  • lower weight so a child can carry and turn it alone,
  • lower volume and thickness, meaning a lower center of gravity and better contact with the water,
  • a stable but not clumsy shape that forgives mistakes.

Lower volume allows the child to paddle closer to the body, leading to more correct technique and less strain on shoulders, elbows and wrists. This is especially important for younger children and beginners.

Such design is not only more efficient, but also safer — in case of an accident, a lighter board is easier to grab, turn or pull out of the water.

Child’s weight and choosing the right SUP

When choosing a kids’ SUP, weight is more important than age.

Most kids’ SUPs are designed for:

  • children up to about 50 kg,
  • some models even up to about 60 kg.

The goal is not maximum load capacity, but the optimal balance between the child’s weight and the board’s volume. A board that’s too big is just as unsuitable as one that’s too small — it becomes clumsy, harder to control, and energy‑intensive.

Kids’ SUP kit — why it’s a smart choice?

A kids’ SUP kit is often the most practical solution because it typically includes:

  • a kids’ SUP board,
  • a paddle,
  • a pump,
  • a transport bag,
  • a safety leash.

Quality and safety of kids’ SUPs

A kids’ SUP must first and foremost be safe, durable and reliable. At Bananaway we offer only kids’ SUP boards of proven quality, made from materials resistant to:

  • water,
  • UV rays,
  • mechanical stress,
  • children’s use such as jumping, dragging onto shore, and playing.

Our selection is based on many years of experience with SUP, on‑water testing and working with children. That’s why you won’t find low‑cost kids’ SUPs of questionable quality in our range — the goal is long life and a good experience, not a short‑term compromise.

Additional gear for a kids’ SUP

For safe and comfortable paddling, besides the board itself, the right gear also matters.

Kids’ SUP paddles

Kids’ paddles are lighter, shorter and adapted to smaller hands. They allow easier maneuvering and reduce strain on joints.

Wetsuit and protection

Wetsuits for children provide:

  • protection from cold,
  • protection from the sun,
  • more comfort during longer paddling sessions.

With the right gear, a child enjoys water time longer and safer.
