Downwind Foil Board for Maximum Glide, Control and Efficiency

The Appletree Apple Skipper DW V2 is a major evolution of its predecessor — thoroughly reengineered for improved foil control, greater lift, and higher efficiency. Built for foilers who want a board that takes them further, faster, and onto the water more often.

From the very first paddle stroke or breath of wind, the board accelerates immediately. The transition from gliding to lifting onto the foil is almost imperceptible — the Skipper DW V2 releases from the surface with minimal friction. The same applies on touchdown: the board returns to the surface calmly without losing speed, allowing easy continuation of the ride.

The V2 introduces a completely updated bottom shape with an innovative dual rocker system, redesigned rails, and an upgraded deck — all working together for easier speed generation, better pumping, and cleaner touchdowns.

For experienced downwind foilers looking for a board that takes their riding to the next level, the Apple Skipper DW V2 is one of the most thoroughly considered options on the market.

Who is the Appletree Apple Skipper DW V2 for?

The Appletree Apple Skipper DW V2 is designed for foilers looking for high performance in downwind foiling and maximum glide.

We recommend it for:

  • experienced downwind foilers looking for progression and speed
  • foilers who ride in light wind and need a low-friction board
  • wing foilers who want to get onto foil from as little as 8–10 knots by switching boards
  • foilers looking for a board built for high-period swells on open water

Why the Appletree Apple Skipper DW V2?

Dual rocker system for better control and lift
A curved rail rocker increases foil angle control, while a straighter, extended centerline improves planing and lift — even before the board touches the water.

Redesigned rails for a cleaner release
The new harder rail profile delivers better release and cleaner touchdowns — critical when landing back on the water during downwind runs.

Upgraded deck for control and drainage
A new spoiler shape toward the tail improves drainage, while the front concave in the standing zone channels water toward the rear exit channels.

Stiffest deck ever built by Appletree
The pump zone is reinforced with a hex-skin plate — making the V2 the stiffest deck Appletree has ever produced.

Lighter and stronger build
Despite using slightly heavier 50K closed cell foam, the overall board weight has been reduced significantly through a super-light finish.

Low friction for more time on the foil
The low-friction hull enables fast speed generation and apparent wind creation. On touchdown, the board barely loses speed — making it easier to carry momentum through lighter wind patches.

Technology

The Appletree Apple Skipper DW V2 is built in 100% carbon fiber construction with a core of Appletree's own 50K closed cell foam — a foam that withstands 50,000 kg per square meter while remaining light, flexible, and waterproof.

The key innovation of the V2 is the dual rocker system: a curved rail rocker for improved foil angle control and a straighter, extended centerline for better planing. The two rocker lines merge mid-board into a flatter, more efficient section — delivering significantly better pumping and glide compared to V1.

Redesigned rails deliver better release and cleaner touchdowns. A sharper nose rail improves lift up front, which allowed the board to be narrowed and lengthened without compromising performance. Additional protection comes in the form of rail tape, an extra bottom layer, and a new tapered edge running from the foil box toward the tail.

The upgraded deck features a new spoiler shape toward the tail for improved drainage and a front concave that channels water to the rear exit channels. The pump zone is reinforced with a hex-skin plate — the stiffest deck Appletree has ever built.

Vacuum infusion ensures the optimal ratio between carbon fiber and epoxy resin, with 100% connection to the core — the boards do not delaminate. Foil boxes are CNC cut with the board, set into PET honeycomb panels wrapped in carbon fiber. Appletree uses exclusively FUTURES oneshot boxes — the strongest in the industry.

About Appletree

Appletree is a Dutch brand founded in 2006 by brothers Wieger and Jorrit Buurma. They started in a shed on the family apple orchard — which is where the name comes from.

After years of experimentation, they developed their own production technology combining CNC shaping, vacuum infusion, and their proprietary 50K closed cell foam. The result is boards that are significantly more durable than typical production boards, while remaining exceptionally light and responsive.

Today Appletree produces in its own factory in Portugal, with a focus on sustainability — using local materials, recycling waste foam, and powering a large part of the factory with solar energy. Their boards carry the Eco Board certification from Sustainable Surf.
