Balance, Coordination & Outdoor Fun
A slackline is a tensioned nylon webbing (often called a “line”) that you set up between two solid anchor points – most commonly trees – and walk across while maintaining balance.
It may look simple, but it’s an incredibly effective way to train coordination, focus and stability.
Slacklining combines:
- outdoor movement,
- core strength training,
- mental concentration,
- and a lot of fun.
It’s perfect for parks, campsites, backyards or the beach – you can set it up almost anywhere with two solid anchor points.
What Is a Slackline?
A slackline is a flat, slightly elastic webbing line typically set up about 30–50 cm (1–1.5 ft) above the ground.
Unlike a tightrope, it isn’t rigid – it behaves more like a narrow, slightly dynamic bridge that requires active balance.
Once you gain basic stability, you can:
- walk the full length,
- practice turns,
- jump (trickline style),
- train specific movement patterns,
- or use it as a form of mindful, meditative movement.
Slacklining has become its own sport, but it’s also an excellent cross-training tool for climbing, skiing, surfing, board sports and running.
Who Is Slackline For?
Slacklining is suitable for:
- beginners who want to improve balanc,
- children and families looking for active outdoor play,
- athletes training coordination and stabilisation,
- individuals recovering from ankle, knee or hip injuries,
- anyone looking to relieve stress in an active way.
Walking on a slackline strengthens deep stabilising muscles, improves posture, coordination and concentration.
Because it demands full focus, it also works as a form of active meditation.
How to Choose a Slackline
Two key factors determine which slackline is right for you:
- length,
- width.
The right choice affects stability, difficulty level and overall feel.
What Length Slackline Should You Choose?
10–15 m (30–50 ft)
- Best for beginners and families.
- Shorter lines are more stable and easier for first steps.
15–25 m (50–80 ft)
- Great for recreational users and progression.
- Offers more movement and dynamic feel.
25 m+ (80 ft+)
- For advanced users.
- Longer lines require more control and experience.
If you’re buying your first slackline, we recommend up to 15 m.
What Width Slackline Should You Choose?
5 cm (2 inch) width – classic slackline
- more stable,
- easier to learn on,
- ideal for beginners and families.
2.5 cm (1 inch) width – advanced / trickline
- more responsive,
- requires greater control,
- suitable for experienced users.
For most users, 5 cm width is the most versatile and beginner-friendly option.
Safety & Proper Setup
Always set up your slackline:
- between two solid, stable anchor points,
- about 30–50 cm above the ground,
- using tree protection straps.
Before use, check:
- correct tension,
- properly closed ratchet,
- stable ground underneath.
Beginners should practice over soft ground (grass or sand).
Why Is Slackline So Effective?
Regular slackline practice:
- strengthens deep core muscles,
- improves balance and coordination,
- enhances concentration,
- builds motivation through visible progress,
- supports joint rehabilitation,
- combines movement, relaxation and fun.
That’s why both professional athletes and families love it.
Slackline for Kids
Slacklining is a great way for children to:
- develop balance,
- improve coordination,
- build confidence,
- spend more time outdoors.
Because progress is quick and visible, it’s highly motivating and engaging.
Where Can You Set Up a Slackline?
You can set up a slackline:
- in a park,
- on a meadow,
- at a campsite,
- on the beach,
- in your backyard,
- or even indoors (with proper anchors).
All you need are two solid anchor points.
