SUP Bags for Boards, Paddles and Transporting Your Gear
A SUP bag is a bag that holds your inflatable paddle board, pump and paddle, so you can carry them safely to the water, take them by car or plane, and store them in the off-season. A good SUP bag has shoulder straps so you can carry it like a backpack, often wheels too, and protects your board from knocks, scratches and sun.
Our range includes bags for inflatable SUP boards with wheels and straps, padded bags for hard boards, and SUP paddle bags. For things you take on the water, you'll also find dry bags and a deck bag that clips onto the front of your board.
Which SUP Bag Should I Choose?
| What you need | What to choose |
|---|---|
| Inflatable SUP, pump and paddle in one | SUP board bag with room for a paddle |
| Airports, streets, longer distances | wheeled SUP bag |
| Walking to the water on gravel or sand | SUP backpack with padded straps |
| Hard SUP board on a roof rack | padded hard board bag |
| Carbon or 3-piece paddle | paddle bag |
| Gear on the board while you paddle | dry bag that clips onto the deck |
SUP Board Bag for Your Board, Paddle and Pump
Most inflatable SUPs come with a bag, but you'll buy one separately when the old one is worn out or you want a better one. A roomy SUP bag holds your rolled board, pump and 3-piece paddle, so everything is in one place. When choosing, check:
- Size – the bag needs to fit the length and thickness of your rolled board.
- Inner straps – hold the board in place so it doesn't shift while you carry it.
- Front or wraparound zip – makes packing easier, even when the board is still a little damp.
- Reinforced base – stands up to scraping on the ground and being dragged across sand.
Wheeled SUP Bag or SUP Backpack?
| Wheeled | Backpack with straps | |
|---|---|---|
| Airports and tarmac | very suitable | less suitable |
| Gravel, grass, sand | less suitable | very suitable |
| Strain on your back | low | medium |
| Hands free | one | both |
The most practical bags have both: wheel it like a suitcase on tarmac, then carry it on your back to a remote launch spot. Removable straps are handy when flying, as you can take them off so they don't snag on the baggage belt.
Hard SUP Board Bags
A hard (epoxy) SUP board is vulnerable to knocks on the nose, tail and rails. A padded hard board bag has a foam lining that cushions impacts when you load it onto the roof and carry it. Choose a bag a few centimetres longer than your board so you can close it without straining the zip.
SUP Paddle Bags
A paddle bag protects the blade and handle from scratches, knocks and sun. It's especially worth having for carbon paddles, which are light but sensitive to impact. A 3-piece bag holds a disassembled paddle, while an adjustable bag also fits a fixed or 2-piece paddle. On a plane you can take it as hand luggage or check it in.
Storing Your SUP in the Off-Season
Before storing, rinse your board in fresh water and let it dry completely, then roll it into the bag. A wet board in a closed bag quickly develops mould and odours. Keep the bag somewhere dry and shady, not in an attic that gets very hot in summer. If you have the space, you can also store an inflatable board slightly inflated. Dry Bags for Your SUP
For your phone, keys, snacks and spare clothes on the water, choose a dry bag with a roll-top closure or waterproof zip. Clip a smaller one onto the deck bungees at the front of your board, or wear a backpack when there's a walk to the water. You'll find the full range, from 1 to 40 litres, in our dry bags.
How to Care for a SUP Bag
After use by the sea, rinse the bag in fresh water so salt doesn't damage the zips, and dry it open. Clean sand out of the zips now and then. Don't leave the bag in the sun for long, as UV rays weaken the material over time.
