SUP Storage – Wall Racks and SUP Locks
Storing your SUP properly extends the life of your board, keeps the material and seams in good condition and prevents damage from sun, moisture and pressure. You can store your SUP inflated on a wall rack or rolled up in a bag, and lock it up in shared spaces and on the beach.
Our range includes a SUP wall rack that also holds your paddle, plus SUP locks with a steel cable that attach to the fin box or through a D-ring on the board.
How Should I Store My SUP?
| Where and how | What to choose |
|---|---|
| Garage or basement with wall space | wall rack, the SUP stays inflated |
| Small flat | SUP rolled up in a SUP bag |
| Shared basement, bike room, campsite | lock with a long cable |
| Beach during lunch or a walk | fin box lock |
| Over winter | rinsed, dry board on a rack or in a bag |
SUP Board Wall Racks
A SUP wall rack is a pair of brackets you screw to the wall and rest an inflated board on. It saves floor space and inflation time, as your SUP is always ready to go. Our wall rack is made of steel with padding that protects the board, carries up to 30 kg and has room for your paddle too. When there's no board on it, you can fold it flat against the wall.
- Bracket spacing – roughly a third of the board's length in from each end, so the weight is spread evenly.
- Board position – deck facing the wall or down, with the fin away from the brackets.
- For two boards – mount two pairs of brackets one above the other, with enough space to lift each board off safely.
- Mounting – screw the brackets into a solid wall or concrete with anchors that can take the board's weight.
Freestanding Rack or Ceiling Rack?
As well as a wall rack, you can store your SUP on a freestanding rack that needs no drilling, or on a ceiling rack that lifts the board up under the garage roof. The same rule applies to all of them: the board should rest on wide, padded supports, away from sharp edges and heat sources.
SUP Locks
A SUP lock with a steel cable stops quick theft of your board in shared spaces, at campsites or on the beach. There are two main types.
| Type | How it works and who it's for |
|---|---|
| Cable through a D-ring (combination) | several boards at once + SUP, kayak and boat |
| Fin box lock (key) | one board + beach and storage |
Before buying a fin box lock, check which fin box your board has: a US box, where the fin is fixed with a screw, or a slide-in box, where the fin slides in without tools. Loop the cable around something solid that can't be lifted or unscrewed, such as a railing, a tree or a wall rack.
Storage Bags for Your SUP
If you don't have room for an inflated board, store it rolled up in a bag. Rinse it in fresh water first and let it dry completely, as a wet board in a closed bag quickly develops mould. You'll find bags for boards and paddles in our SUP bags.
How to Store Your SUP Over Winter
- Rinse the board in fresh water to remove salt, sand and algae.
- Dry it on both sides, including around the valve, the fin and under the bungees.
- Remove the fin so it doesn't break and doesn't strain the fin box.
- Let a little air out of a board stored inflated on a rack, so it isn't at full pressure.
- Store it somewhere dry and shady, away from radiators, heaters and direct sun.
