The length of the foil mast depends on the discipline and experience. A shorter mast (60–75 cm) is suitable for beginners and shallow water. A medium length (75–85 cm) is the most universal choice for wing foil. A longer mast (85–95 cm) allows for higher speeds, more stability at speed, and is suitable for advanced riders and downwind.

A carbon foil mast is lighter, stiffer, and provides a more direct power transfer, making it suitable for advanced users and higher speeds. An aluminum foil mast is more affordable, very durable, and an excellent choice for beginners or recreational users.

The foil mast is used in wing foiling, SUP foiling, surf foiling, and downwind foiling. The appropriate length and material should be chosen based on the discipline and conditions.

Rinse the foil mast with fresh water after each use, especially after sailing in the sea. Regularly check screws and joints and use anti-corrosion grease if necessary, especially on aluminum models.
